Book and Movie Reviews

Books and movies are like apples and
oranges.
They are both fruit, but they taste
completely different.

Veronika Decides to Die || Book

By Paulo Coelho, this book was short and sweet. The story revolves around this woman, Veronika who tries to commit suicide and fails. She ends up in a mental institute so that she can be "cured", but really, they just put her there to die as she only has one week to live. Veronika's character development is astounding and Paulo made sure that the author would feel this progression. However, at some points, the change in her attitude seemed a little too forced for me. Almost like Paulo really wanted you to feel exactly what she was feeling.

The overall story was enlightening. You do gain some perspective at the end of your reading experience, but the experience as a whole is far too predictable. And maybe that's what makes this book all the more special- you know what's going to happen but you're shushing yourself to feel that tingle of surprise.

I wouldn't read it again, but I'd definitely suggest it to someone else.
